BTRC Fixed Call Drop Compensation

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has regulated mobile operators to compensate users in case of dropped calls. From now on the customer will be compensated only when the first call is dropped while talking to the same phone operator. 

This surprising instruction will be effective from October 1, 2022.

These things were announced in a press conference on call drop and compensation at the BTRC headquarters in Ramna of the capital on September 26, 2022.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, 'Compensation is not our concern. Actually, this direction is being issued to ensure seamless service to phone users. We expect phone operators to improve their service quality and get rid of compensation, that's what we want.

According to BTRC, the customer will henceforth get 30 seconds of talk time for each call drop in case of first and second call drop and 40 seconds of talk time for each call drop in case of third to seventh call drop. The refunded talk-time will be usable from the next day and the customer will not be charged until this talk-time is over.

Moreover, the call drop compensation should be informed to the customer through SMS within the next 24 hours. An operator can pay compensation from the day of call drop if he wants. Call drop refund will be valid for 15 days. BTRC said operators will be compensated 309.44 seconds for 100 seconds of call drop.

Customers of any operator can now know their call drop amount by dialing *121*765#.

BTRC also informed that Grameen Phone and Robi compensate customers for third to seventh call drops. On the other hand, Banglalink compensates the second to sixth call drop.
