Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti called for intensified efforts at the Islamic Fiqh Council to address Sharia issues in the face of modern challenges and new rulings.


In a significant gathering of Islamic scholars, Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti, Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, emphasized the importance of embracing technology to enhance collaboration among Islamic authorities. The conference, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, brought together scholars from across the Muslim world to address contemporary issues faced by Muslims and minorities.

The Grand Mufti's address underscored the adaptability of Islamic law in confronting modern challenges. He urged scholars to actively engage with these challenges through rigorous research and collaboration. This collaboration, he stressed, should be facilitated by the strategic use of technology.

The assembly, led by the Grand Mufti, served as a platform for scholars to discuss and issue rulings on pressing issues. These rulings, translated into various languages and disseminated through media channels, aim to clarify Islamic principles and demonstrate the flexibility of Islamic jurisprudence in adapting to contemporary situations.

The opening session underscored the importance of collective efforts among scholars and religious bodies.  This collaboration, it was emphasized, is crucial for tackling emerging challenges and fostering societal stability and well-being.

Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa echoed the focus on contemporary legal issues. He highlighted the extensive research conducted by distinguished scholars in preparation for the assembly. Al-Issa stressed the responsibility of leading Islamic scholars to address new challenges as part of their scholarly duty. He emphasized the need for meticulous research and interpretation to provide clear legal rulings that align with religious principles.

Al-Issa further emphasized the importance of demonstrating Islamic jurisprudence's capacity to handle any emerging issue. He noted the Islamic Fiqh Council's unique position as the oldest institution of its kind in Islamic history, with membership based solely on academic merit.  The MWL chief highlighted the assembly's long history of earning trust and generating impactful contributions that are widely discussed in academic and research circles. 

Hissein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), lauded Saudi Arabia's role in hosting this significant meeting. He commended the Kingdom's efforts in supporting positive trends and safeguarding the Muslim community from various challenges. Taha emphasized the need for contemporary Islamic scholarship to keep pace with global developments. He commended the unity displayed by Islamic scholars from different countries, underlining the importance of their collective service to their faith.

The conference served as a testament to the commitment of Islamic scholars to navigate the complexities of the modern world. By embracing technology and fostering collaboration, Islamic authorities hope to provide clear and adaptable guidance for Muslims around the globe.
