Space exploration enthusiasts and future astronauts unite! Louisiana gears up to celebrate its contributions to space endeavors with a jam-packed Louisiana Space Day 2024 at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, May 8th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm CDT.

This exciting event, co-hosted by NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility, a renowned aerospace powerhouse, along with several leading aerospace companies and GNO Inc., promises a day filled with inspiration, learning, and interaction.

Geared towards igniting a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in young minds, the day will be a haven for students from middle, high school, and even college. Participants can expect a vibrant display of interactive STEM activities designed to spark curiosity and ignite their imaginations.

But the excitement doesn't stop there! Budding space enthusiasts will get the chance to rub shoulders with a real-life astronaut, NASA's very own Josh Cassada. This exclusive opportunity allows students to ask questions, hear firsthand accounts of space exploration, and gain valuable insights into the life of an astronaut.

The day also features a captivating Artemis Generation panel discussion led by NASA leadership. This insightful session will delve into the ongoing Artemis program, NASA's ambitious plan to return humans to the Moon and establish a sustainable presence there. College students will have the chance to engage with the panel, fostering a platform for dialogue and exploration of the future of space exploration.

Louisiana's rich history and ongoing contributions to space exploration won't go unnoticed. The event will feature a special reading of a Space Day resolution by Louisiana legislators. This gesture highlights the state's significant role in space endeavors, from the crucial work done at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility to the dedication of countless Louisiana-based aerospace companies. Joining the legislators for the reading will be esteemed figures like Joseph Pelfrey, Director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and Hansel Gill, Director of NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility, further solidifying the state's commitment to space exploration.

Adding to the excitement, the event will feature booths and exhibits from leading players in the aerospace industry. From NASA Michoud itself to giants like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and United Launch Alliance (ULA), students and the public will have the opportunity to interact with these organizations and learn more about their space-related projects. Additionally, Blue Origin, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and LA STEM will be present, showcasing their contributions and fostering a collaborative environment.

This Louisiana Space Day promises to be a truly engaging experience. Media outlets are encouraged to attend and capture the energy of the event. For credentials or additional information, contact Craig Betbeze at [email address removed] or 504-419-5333 by May 7th.
