Petaling Jaya, Malaysia — March 5, 2025:

Malaysia is poised to make a historic leap in the technology sector as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim prepares to launch a strategic collaboration with a UK-based company. The deal, set to be signed this evening, will transform Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor industries, positioning the nation as a key player in the global technology ecosystem.

Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, shared details in a briefing earlier today, revealing that this partnership will see Malaysia become the first country in the ASEAN region to collaborate with the world’s largest chip architecture design company. As part of the deal, Malaysia will serve as the primary hub for the company in Southeast Asia, and the company will establish its first regional office in the country.

“This collaboration will elevate Malaysia’s tech ecosystem and position the country as a leader in global technology,” Tunku Nashrul emphasized. “Malaysian companies will gain access to cutting-edge semiconductor technology and expertise, along with training opportunities for local talent.”

The deal comes as part of Malaysia’s broader effort to foster innovation and technological advancement, facilitated through the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), the Finance Ministry, and the Economy Ministry.

In addition to the AI and semiconductor collaboration, the Prime Minister continues to prioritize the eradication of hardcore poverty. As part of this ongoing effort, Anwar Ibrahim will visit various states to chair special development meetings alongside state leaders and agencies.

“Since announcing the initiative in Budget 2023, we have mobilized political secretaries across states to ensure that aid is delivered effectively to the hardcore poor,” Tunku Nashrul noted. “Our goal is to improve income, job opportunities, education, healthcare, housing, and overall living standards. As of December 31, 2023, several states, including Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Perlis, have successfully achieved zero hardcore poverty. We will continue working to extend this success nationwide.”
