WASHINGTON D.C. – April 11, 2025:

The United States has warmly welcomed Bangladesh’s decision to sign the Artemis Accords, a set of principles designed to guide responsible and sustainable civilian space exploration. The U.S. State Department released an official statement on Thursday, recognizing Bangladesh's commitment to peaceful activities in space.

Bangladesh officially became the 54th signatory to the Artemis Accords on April 8, during the 2025 Investment Summit. Mohammad Ashraf Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of the Bangladeshi government, with U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Bangladesh Tracy Jacobson present at the ceremony.

The U.S. State Department’s statement highlighted the enduring relationship between the United States and Bangladesh, which has spanned more than 50 years. The statement also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to strengthening this relationship, particularly in areas of economic development and regional security within the Indo-Pacific region.

"By signing the Artemis Accords, Bangladesh envisions peaceful exploration in space," the statement emphasized, underscoring the significance of Bangladesh’s participation in the international effort to promote responsible space activities.

The Artemis Accords, initiated by the United States and NASA in 2020 with seven founding nations, provide a framework of practical principles for conducting civilian space exploration. The agreement now includes 54 countries, with notable signatories including Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The U.S. Department of State and NASA continue to play a leading role in the implementation and expansion of this important international agreement.
