MIAMI, USA — May 5, 2025:
The global street skateboarding spotlight turned to South Florida this weekend as the 2025 SLS Championship Tour kicked off in dramatic fashion. Monster Energy riders Nyjah Huston and Rayssa Leal claimed top honors at SLS Miami 2025, delivering world-class performances in front of a roaring crowd at the Watsco Center, University of Miami.
In a climactic Men’s Skateboard Street final, 30-year-old Huston from Laguna Beach, California—already an SLS icon—secured his 27th career win in a walk-off moment. Huston wowed fans with a series of elite-level tricks, including a switch frontside kickflip over the big gap for 9.3 points during his line run. In the Single Trick section, he made history by recording his 100th Nine Club trick, then added three more with standout moves like a switch heelflip crooked grind (9.2) and a backside nollie kickflip (9.2) for a final winning score of 36.8 points.
“Man, I’m so hyped. This one’s honestly even better than the Brazil contest last year,” Huston said. “The older I get, the more I appreciate it. Especially after a final like that!”
In the Women’s division, 17-year-old Brazilian phenom Rayssa Leal reaffirmed her dominance. Despite a shaky start, the reigning three-time Super Crown World Champion recovered with a flawless second line, featuring frontside bluntslide on the Cobra rail and heelflip up the Euro Gap for 7.5 points. Her momentum carried into the Single Trick section, where she executed a kickflip frontside boardslide (7.6), frontside bluntslide shove-it (8.4), and a kickflip backside lipslide (8.6), sealing her 13th SLS victory with a score of 32.1 points.
“This contest was so fun! Every win feels special—it’s crazy!” said Leal, who nearly stuck a kickflip frontside bluntslide on her final attempt to the crowd's delight.
Also impressing was 24-year-old Brazilian rider Vianna, who scored two Nine Club tricks, including a Caballerial frontside bluntslide fakie and a frontside Half Cab backside Smith grind, before finishing in fifth place after missed final attempts.
SLS Miami 2025 marked the beginning of a stacked season for the Street League Skateboarding series, founded by Rob Dyrdek in 2010 and backed by Monster Energy. The tour features seven major events this year, with upcoming stops in Paris (October 11) and the Super Crown World Championship in São Paulo (December 6–7). The new SLS Spot Takeover series kicks off on May 23 at Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, bringing festival vibes to iconic skate locations.
With unmatched energy, elite competition, and a global fanbase, the 2025 SLS Tour promises to be a defining chapter in the evolution of competitive street skateboarding.
