Berklee Valencia will honor internationally acclaimed Scottish composer Patrick Doyle with an honorary Doctor of Music degree at its 2025 commencement ceremony on Monday, July 7. Doyle, whose music has reached an audience of over a billion people worldwide, has scored more than 60 feature films and collaborated with some of the most renowned directors in the film industry.
Throughout his distinguished career, Doyle has become known for his remarkable contributions to both film scoring and concert music. In addition to his extensive film work, he has composed several original concert pieces and actively supports organizations that help fund the next generation of artistic talent. His dedication to both his craft and the broader artistic community has made a lasting impact on the music world.
Simone Pilon, executive director of Berklee Valencia, remarked, “Patrick Doyle’s dedication to the art of film scoring, his passion for storytelling through music, and his commitment to supporting young talent have inspired countless musicians, composers, and filmmakers — including many Berklee students. His work has had an extraordinary influence, and it is a privilege to honor him with this degree.”
Doyle, in response, expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, stating, “Berklee is an exceptional institution, firmly committed to nurturing creativity and artistic excellence. I am truly honored to receive this recognition. It also means a great deal to be included on such a special day for the graduating students. I look forward to congratulating them.”
In the past five years, Berklee Valencia has awarded honorary doctorates to several distinguished figures, including Lila Downs, Gilberto Gil, Alberto Iglesias, Yvette Noel-Schure, and Youssou N'Dour. Doyle will join this prestigious list when he addresses the graduating class of 2025 during the ceremony.
The commencement festivities will begin on Saturday, July 5, with La Fira de Berklee, a vibrant celebratory event showcasing the incredible talents of Berklee Valencia students at the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències. The commencement ceremony on July 7 will mark the culmination of a memorable celebration of music, achievement, and creativity at Berklee Valencia.
