Semikron Danfoss celebrates 15 graduates from its GAINS Registered Apprenticeship Program in Utica, New York, highlighting the importance of workforce development in the advanced manufacturing and semiconductor sectors.
Utica, New York, USA — May 3, 2025:
Semikron Danfoss proudly celebrated the graduation of 15 apprentices from its Industrial Manufacturing Technician Registered Apprenticeship (RA) program on Wednesday, marking a pivotal moment in New York’s push to strengthen its semiconductor and advanced manufacturing workforce.
Held at the company’s Utica facility, the ceremony coincided with the U.S. Department of Labor's first-ever National Apprenticeship Day, replacing the traditional National Apprenticeship Week. This new annual celebration underscores the national importance of registered apprenticeships in preparing the next generation for high-skill, high-wage careers.
The RA program at Semikron Danfoss is part of the Growing Apprenticeships in Nanotechnology and Semiconductors (GAINS) initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and administered through The National Institute for Industry and Career Advancement (NIICA). MACNY, The Manufacturers Association, serves as the Group Sponsor, while Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) provides the critical Related Technical Instruction (RTI) that supports the training.
“This graduation is a powerful example of how Registered Apprenticeship Programs are transforming workforce development in New York,” said Michael Frame, Executive Vice President of MACNY. “By combining industry-led training with educational support, we’re launching meaningful careers. Semikron Danfoss is showing what’s possible when employers invest in their people.”
With over $100 billion in semiconductor investments flowing into New York since 2022 and a manufacturing sector supporting more than 420,000 jobs statewide, the demand for skilled workers is rapidly increasing. Programs like GAINS offer tangible pathways to long-term success, with national data showing average starting salaries above $77,000 and a 94% employment retention rate nine months post-graduation.
“We’re incredibly proud of our apprentices and the dedication they’ve shown,” said Michael Godsen, General Manager of Semikron Danfoss. “This program allows us to invest in our team’s growth while helping secure the talent we need to remain competitive in advanced manufacturing.”
Mike Russo, President & CEO of NIICA, also praised the milestone: “This celebration is a reminder of what’s possible when we build real bridges between education, training, and industry. Thanks to our partners like MACNY and Semikron Danfoss, we’re not just meeting workforce needs—we’re building the future of American manufacturing.”
As the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries continue to expand, initiatives like GAINS ensure that both workers and employers benefit—offering apprentices a chance at high-quality careers and companies the skilled talent they need to innovate and grow.
