Dhaka, Bangladesh – May 20, 2025
Starlink, the satellite-based internet service by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially launched operations in Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in the country's digital connectivity landscape.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 20, by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, through a Facebook post. He stated that Starlink representatives contacted him via phone on Monday afternoon (May 19) to confirm the launch, and the company later publicly announced the development on its X (formerly Twitter) platform.
“Initially, Starlink will offer two packages—Starlink Residence and Residence Lite,” Taiyeb said. “The monthly subscription costs are Tk 6,000 and Tk 4,200 respectively, with a one-time setup equipment fee of Tk 47,000.”
Customers will enjoy unlimited data usage with no speed caps, reaching up to 300 Mbps depending on their selected package and location. The service is now open for order submissions across Bangladesh.
“This rollout fulfills the Chief Adviser’s vision of launching Starlink within 90 days,” Taiyeb noted. “Though premium-priced, this service provides a vital alternative for customers seeking dependable, high-speed internet—especially in areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is lacking.”
Starlink’s entry is expected to boost digital access in remote and underserved regions, benefiting NGOs, freelance professionals, tech entrepreneurs, and rural businesses that previously lacked reliable connectivity.
Approved by Bangladesh’s interim government earlier this year, Starlink is a Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite internet provider capable of delivering high-speed broadband to hard-to-reach areas via its constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites.
“This initiative is not just about faster internet,” Taiyeb added. “It’s about inclusion, innovation, and unlocking new opportunities for digital entrepreneurship and education.”
With the launch, Bangladesh joins a growing list of countries accessing next-generation internet services through Starlink, as the company expands its global footprint with a focus on improving connectivity in underserved and rural markets.
