Istanbul, Turkey — June 2, 2025:

Turkcell, in partnership with Huawei, has set a new global benchmark in wireless technology by achieving a 50 Gbps data transmission speed using Full Duplex Radio Link technology—an unprecedented advancement in 5G network capability. The test, conducted in Istanbul, marks the first time such speeds have been attained on a single E-band (80 GHz) link, establishing Turkey as a technological frontrunner in the digital era.

This next-generation breakthrough enables the simultaneous transmission and reception of data over the same frequency, effectively doubling spectral efficiency and reducing latency—core requirements for future 5G infrastructure. The advanced design incorporates high-isolation antennas and interference-mitigation algorithms, making it ideal for high-density urban environments and remote rural areas alike.

Professor Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, Chief Technology Officer of Turkcell, emphasized the transformative potential of this milestone:

“With this achievement, we are laying the foundation for a future-proof digital infrastructure that ensures fast, sustainable, and resilient connectivity. It demonstrates our commitment to preparing Turkey’s network for the exponential data demands of tomorrow.”

According to Turkcell, the achieved bandwidth is sufficient to support approximately 10,000 users concurrently accessing both voice and data services—vital for real-time applications like augmented reality, remote healthcare, and smart cities.

Huawei’s Radio Link Product Line President, James Zeng, hailed the collaboration as a milestone in both technology and international cooperation:

“This world-first Full Duplex implementation shows our dedication to advancing Turkey’s digital ecosystem and global leadership in 5G development. Achieving 50 Gbps not only accelerates local innovation but also builds a robust platform for long-term economic and societal benefits.”

The test is part of broader efforts to expand 5G readiness in Turkey, addressing the surging demand for high-speed connectivity driven by video streaming, IoT, and cloud-based services.

Huawei, with operations in over 170 countries, and Turkcell, the only telecom provider listed on both the NYSE and BIST, continue to play key roles in shaping global communications infrastructure.

This achievement solidifies Turkey’s standing as a strategic hub for cutting-edge telecom innovation and underscores the critical role of public-private partnerships in driving technological progress.
