DHAKA, Bangladesh — June 28, 2025:

The UIU MARINER team from United International University (UIU) has achieved a historic milestone, placing 5th in the world and 1st in Asia at the MATE ROV World Championship 2025 in the PIONEER Class. The prestigious underwater robotics competition was held from June 17–21 at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena, Michigan, USA, and organized by the Marine Technology Society (MTS), USA.

Representing Bangladesh as the country's first-ever university team to compete at this level, UIU MARINER also clinched the Technical Documentation Champion title, scoring a near-perfect 81 out of 100 for their detailed and innovative submission.

The team, under the Advanced Underwater Robotics and Automation (AURA) program, competed against 13 finalist teams from countries including the USA, Canada, Egypt, Mexico, and Bangladesh. Teams were evaluated in eight critical categories: Product Demonstration, Engineering Presentation, Technical Documentation, Marketing Display, Collaborative Mission, Company Specification, Corporate Responsibility, and Safety.

The UIU MARINER’s custom-built ROV impressed the judges with its precision engineering, mission readiness, and technical innovation. Their cumulative score of 377 secured their place among the top global contenders, showcasing the capabilities of Bangladeshi engineering talent on an international stage.

The 10-member team was led by Anika Tabassum Orchi (Project Manager, Dept. of CSE) and Farhan Zaman (Head of R&D, Dept. of CSE). The project was supervised by Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan (EEE), Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Muzahidul Islam (CSE), Mr. Fahim Hafiz, and Mr. Saifur Rahman, both Lecturers from the Dept. of CSE at UIU.

This international success marks a proud moment not only for United International University but for Bangladesh as a whole, affirming that innovation, hard work, and technical excellence can propel young talent to global acclaim.
