ARLINGTON, United States – July 31, 2025:

education technology brand 2U announced on Thursday the launch of six new technical microcredentials developed in partnership with IBM, further expanding their collaboration to deliver cutting-edge, workforce-relevant education. These microcredentials are now available through edX, 2U’s global online learning platform, and are designed specifically for working professionals looking to gain practical skills in artificial intelligence, data science, and software engineering.
As AI continues to reshape nearly every industry, the need for upskilling has become urgent. Recent data from PwC shows that skills in AI-impacted roles are evolving 66 percent faster than the global average. In response to this shift, the newly introduced programs are built to provide a more accessible, affordable, and flexible alternative to traditional degrees. Each offering is structured to blend live instruction, self-paced learning, and peer interaction, all guided by experienced instructors and personalized academic advisors.
Enrollment is now open for the first three programs—IBM Data Analyst Certificate, IBM Data Science Certificate, and IBM Applied AI Developer Certificate—with cohorts starting in October 2025. The Data Analyst program runs for 10 weeks and equips learners with foundational analytical skills suitable for career advancement or transitions into data-centric roles. The Data Science program, also spanning 10 weeks, explores the entire data science lifecycle, including data collection, statistical analysis, machine learning, and ethics. The Applied AI Developer program is a six-week intensive focused on designing and deploying AI solutions with an emphasis on generative AI and responsible innovation.
Three additional programs—Software Engineer, Generative AI Engineer, and DevOps Engineer—are set to open for enrollment later this year. Each course is built using IBM-developed curriculum and taught by subject matter experts proficient in the company’s latest technologies. Learners are expected to commit approximately 12 hours per week and pay between $1,900 and $2,500 depending on the program. Every participant who completes a program will receive an official IBM certificate, validating their technical proficiency in the chosen domain.
Andy Morgan, Chief Partnerships Officer at 2U, emphasized the importance of aligning education with industry demand. He stated that the partnership with IBM enables them to offer job-relevant learning experiences that move in step with the evolving tech landscape. Morgan noted that as the nature of work changes, professionals need educational pathways that can help them adapt quickly and confidently.
Rav Ahuja, Global Program Leader and Chief Content Officer of IBM Skills Network, echoed this sentiment, highlighting IBM’s mission to close the global skills gap. He said that the partnership with 2U reimagines how professionals gain meaningful, practical skills to succeed in an AI-powered world. According to Ahuja, this is about democratizing access to future-focused careers and ensuring that more people have the opportunity to participate in the digital economy.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment by both organizations to deliver premium education experiences at scale, accessible to learners around the globe. The launch also builds on IBM’s longstanding leadership on the edX platform, where it was the first corporate partner to introduce MicroBachelors® programs. By integrating enterprise insights with academic excellence, IBM and 2U are preparing professionals to thrive in a rapidly transforming world of work.
2U, through edX, connects over 96 million learners worldwide with thousands of affordable and career-aligned opportunities in partnership with more than 250 universities and industry leaders. From free courses to full degrees, the platform continues to advance its mission of expanding access to high-quality education that drives positive change for individuals and communities alike.
