MGI Tech Co., Ltd. ("MGI"), a global leader in life sciences innovation, has been named a "Green World Champion" at the prestigious 2025 Green World Awards, recognizing its pioneering role in mangrove conservation in Thailand. The company received top honors in the Environmental Improvement: Conservation & Wildlife Projects category for its collaboration with Thailand’s National Omics Center, which uses advanced genomic technologies to protect and preserve the country's vital mangrove ecosystems.
Mangroves are essential coastal ecosystems that act as natural barriers against storms, support marine biodiversity, and sustain local economies. However, they face increasing threats from environmental degradation and climate change. In response, MGI and Thai researchers have teamed up to apply genomics to conservation—unlocking new insights into how mangrove species adapt to changing environmental conditions like rising sea levels, salinity, and habitat loss.
At the heart of this initiative is MGI’s DNBSEQ™ sequencing technology, which has enabled Thai scientists to map the genetic diversity of 15 mangrove species and establish a comprehensive reference genome database. This work supports the development of smarter, more targeted conservation strategies and marks a significant advancement over traditional biodiversity monitoring methods.
