SAGA, Japan – July 27, 2025:

Three lights, suspected to be drones, were seen flying over Kyushu Electric Power Co.’s Genkai Nuclear Power Plant in Saga Prefecture at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA).

Kyushu Electric initially reported the sighting of three drones, but later amended its statement on Sunday, clarifying it could not confirm whether the lights were indeed drones.

The power company reported the event to the NRA as a security concern related to the protection of nuclear materials and potential disruptions to plant operations.

By midnight on Sunday, the NRA confirmed that no abnormalities had been detected in the operation of reactors No. 1 through 4. Additionally, no drones were found within the plant’s secure premises.
