RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — August 27, 2025:

HiTHIUM, a global leader in energy storage technology, has announced a landmark agreement with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to deliver a 4-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) in Saudi Arabia. The project, one of the largest of its kind in the Middle East, will be deployed in the northern provinces of Tabuk and Hail and developed in partnership with Alfanar Projects.

At the heart of this major deployment is HiTHIUM’s breakthrough ∞Cell 1175Ah, the world’s first mass-produced long-duration energy storage cell. The technology will be housed within HiTHIUM’s ∞Power 6.25MWh Desert Eagle containerized BESS units, specifically engineered to operate in Saudi Arabia’s extreme desert climate. These systems feature multi-layer insulation capable of reducing internal temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius, fully sealed components for sandstorm protection, and automated dust alert systems to minimize maintenance demands. With components rated for over 40,000 hours of continuous operation, the systems are designed for durability and longevity in the harshest environments.

The BESS projects are strategically aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a national initiative aimed at economic diversification and sustainable development. The storage systems will provide essential grid services such as load shifting, black-start capabilities, voltage support, and frequency regulation. These functions are critical for improving grid stability, enabling higher levels of renewable energy integration, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

HiTHIUM will oversee the entire technology scope, including system design, equipment supply, installation supervision, and long-term maintenance. Construction will be led by Alfanar Projects, with commissioning targeted for 2026.

Dr. Keramat Fakhari, President of HiTHIUM’s Middle East and Africa region, emphasized the global importance of the initiative. He stated that this 4GWh project marks a defining moment not only for Saudi Arabia’s clean energy transformation but also for HiTHIUM’s mission to deliver high-performance energy storage where it is needed most. By combining HiTHIUM’s advanced ∞Cell technology with SEC’s national infrastructure goals and Alfanar’s regional expertise, the project sets a new international standard for grid-scale storage in extreme environments.

This milestone underscores HiTHIUM’s expanding global footprint and its role in accelerating the energy transition through scalable, reliable, and climate-resilient storage solutions.
