President Donald Trump has set in motion one of the most expansive artificial intelligence initiatives in U.S. history, unveiling the Genesis Mission, a government–industry collaboration intended to transform federal scientific data into new AI-powered discoveries. Announced through an executive order, the initiative directs the Department of Energy and national laboratories to build a unified digital platform that consolidates scientific datasets long scattered across federal agencies.
The plan invites universities and private technology firms to deploy their AI expertise on federal challenges ranging from engineering advances to improving the efficiency of the U.S. electric grid. White House officials, who briefed reporters anonymously, emphasized that the program is not focused on medical research but on scientific and security-related AI applications.
