Dhaka, Bangladesh — February 8, 2026:
Bangladesh’s telecommunications industry has entered a new phase with the launch of the country’s first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) SIM by Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL). This launch represents a significant advancement in mobile connectivity, digital services, and telecom innovation.
An MVNO SIM allows operators to provide mobile services without owning physical network infrastructure. BTCL’s MVNO operates by using the existing network of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, enabling faster service rollout and efficient operations. This model reduces infrastructure costs while ensuring reliable connectivity for customers.
One of the key benefits of MVNO SIMs is the ability to deliver unlimited services. BTCL’s MVNO SIM offers unlimited voice calls and unlimited internet access, removing traditional usage restrictions and enhancing user convenience. This approach directly addresses the growing demand for uninterrupted communication and data services in Bangladesh.
BTCL has also introduced quad-play services through its MVNO platform for the first time in the country. These services combine unlimited mobile voice, unlimited mobile data, unlimited broadband connectivity through Zipon, and access to digital and OTT entertainment content such as drama and movies via Toffee. By integrating communication, broadband, and content services, the MVNO SIM creates a unified digital experience.
The MVNO model supports faster innovation in the telecom sector. BTCL’s MVNO SIM includes app-based IP calling services like Alap, reflecting a shift toward modern, internet-driven communication. Successful provisioning of voice calls, data services, mobile-to-mobile connectivity, and GPON integration confirms the technical readiness of the platform.
On-site provisioning, activation, and test calls were completed at BTCL’s Gulistan and Ramna offices ahead of the live pilot, which officially began on February 8. Officials from the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology have described the initiative as a groundbreaking milestone for Bangladesh’s telecom sector.
BTCL received trial approval to launch its MVNO service in November of the previous year, and the rapid progress since then highlights the effectiveness of the MVNO model. As the MVNO SIM becomes available to general customers, it is expected to strengthen digital connectivity, improve service accessibility, and support Bangladesh’s broader digital transformation goals.
The launch of BTCL’s MVNO SIM positions virtual network services as a key driver of the future telecom ecosystem in Bangladesh, offering scalable, integrated, and customer-focused digital solutions.
