However, cybersecurity specialists warn that one common habit—failing to change Wi-Fi passwords for long periods—can expose users to significant digital security risks.
Technology experts say many users set up their Wi-Fi networks once and rarely update the password afterward. While convenient, this practice can create vulnerabilities that cybercriminals may exploit to gain unauthorized access to personal networks and connected devices.
One of the most immediate risks of leaving a Wi-Fi password unchanged is the increased likelihood of unauthorized users connecting to the network. Over time, passwords may be shared, guessed, or leaked. Once someone gains access, they can continue using the connection without the owner’s knowledge.
This type of unauthorized access may go unnoticed for long periods, especially if the network owner does not regularly check connected devices through the router’s control panel.
