Vivo is making a bold push into India’s premium smartphone segment with the launch of its new X-series devices—the X300 Ultra and X300 FE—positioning them directly against established flagship offerings from global competitors.

The launch, scheduled for today and streamed on Vivo’s official digital platforms, highlights the company’s growing focus on high-end imaging, performance, and design. The devices will also be available through major online retailer Flipkart, underscoring the brand’s reliance on India’s fast-growing online smartphone market.

At the center of attention is the Vivo X300 Ultra, which is being positioned as a top-tier flagship device. According to industry leaks, it is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 6.83-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and a heavy emphasis on professional-grade photography.

The camera system is the device’s most aggressive selling point. It is rumored to include a 200MP primary sensor, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with advanced stabilization, and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, all tuned with Zeiss technology. This setup signals Vivo’s continued strategy of competing in mobile photography, an area traditionally dominated by brands like Apple and Samsung.

Battery performance also reflects flagship ambitions, with reports suggesting a 6,600 mAh battery supporting 100W wired charging and 40W wireless charging. The device is also expected to offer IP68 and IP69 ratings, indicating strong resistance to dust and water—features increasingly expected in ultra-premium smartphones.

Alongside it, the Vivo X300 FE (Fan Edition) targets a slightly lower price segment while maintaining flagship-level features. It is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a 6.31-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a triple-camera system also developed with Zeiss optics. Despite being a “Fan Edition,” it retains a strong focus on imaging, including a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP periscope lens.

The FE model’s pricing strategy appears designed to broaden Vivo’s reach in the upper mid-premium category, where competition is intensifying from both Chinese and Indian smartphone makers. With an expected starting price of around ₹79,999, it still sits firmly in the premium bracket, signaling that “budget flagship” positioning is no longer the focus.

The Ultra model, expected to be priced near ₹1,59,999, enters a highly competitive segment dominated by Apple’s Pro Max lineup and Samsung’s Ultra series. At this level, success depends less on specifications alone and more on ecosystem integration, brand trust, and long-term software support.

A key narrative around this launch is Vivo’s continued emphasis on cinematic mobile content creation. Promotional messaging highlights advanced video recording capabilities, including 4K 10-bit LOG recording, suggesting the company is targeting creators and professional users rather than just casual consumers.

However, the challenge remains significant. While Vivo has made strong gains in camera hardware innovation, competing at the ultra-premium level requires convincing users that its ecosystem can match or surpass entrenched rivals in performance consistency, software experience, and long-term value.

Ultimately, the X300 Ultra and X300 FE reflect a broader trend in the smartphone industry: flagship devices are increasingly defined not just by hardware specifications, but by their positioning as creative tools. Whether Vivo can convert technical ambition into market leadership in India’s premium segment will depend on how well these devices perform beyond the spec sheet.
