On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus' independence, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken delivered a congratulatory message to the Cypriot people, reflecting on the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations. Blinken's statement underscored the shared values and goals that bind Cyprus and the United States, and he expressed optimism for the continued deepening of their relationship.
"On behalf of the people of the United States, I send our congratulations to the people of the Republic of Cyprus on the 64th anniversary of its independence," Blinken began. His message highlighted the commitment of both countries to fostering a more peaceful and prosperous world, emphasizing the vital role Cyprus plays as a partner to the United States. "The Republic of Cyprus and the United States are partners in pursuit of a more peaceful and prosperous world and share a commitment to democracy and freedom."
The Secretary of State praised Cyprus's contributions to strengthening the rule of law, its leadership on regional security issues, and its assistance to civilians in crisis, positioning the island nation as a key player in international efforts to address global challenges. "We are deeply grateful for Cyprus’s contributions and continued efforts to strengthen the rule of law, its leadership on regional security issues, and its continued assistance in support of civilians in crisis," Blinken said.
In reaffirming the strong ties between the two nations, Blinken noted that "the bonds between our nations have never been stronger," reflecting the growing cooperation on various fronts. He also looked ahead to further collaboration, expressing the United States' eagerness to deepen its bilateral relationship with Cyprus in the years to come.
Blinken reiterated the United States' long-standing support for a Cypriot-led, United Nations-facilitated solution to reunify the island, which has been divided since 1974. The US remains fully committed to a comprehensive settlement that would establish a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality for all Cypriots.
"We remain a steadfast partner and believe in the resilience of the Cypriot people," Blinken said, reaffirming the United States' dedication to helping Cyprus achieve lasting peace and unity.
Blinken concluded his message by extending warm regards to the people of Cyprus: "I extend my warmest regards and best wishes to the Cypriot people, and I look forward to another year of collaboration between our nations."
