Istanbul, Turkey – November 27, 2024:
Beko, a global leader in home appliances, has made significant strides in its commitment to environmental sustainability by securing validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its short-term (2030) and net-zero (2050) greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.
Aligned with the 1.5°C trajectory of the Paris Agreement, Beko's validated targets demonstrate a clear path towards a more sustainable future. The company aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to 2022. For the long term, Beko is targeting a 90% reduction in absolute emissions across all scopes by 2050.
Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko, emphasized the importance of addressing Scope 3 emissions, which account for the majority of the company's total emissions. By prioritizing energy-efficient products and sustainable practices throughout the value chain, Beko aims to minimize its environmental impact.
Beko's commitment to sustainability extends beyond emissions reduction. The company is actively working on innovations to improve manufacturing processes, product design, packaging, material sourcing, and end-of-life product management.
By securing SBTi validation, Beko joins a growing number of companies taking bold action to combat climate change. The company's ambitious targets and comprehensive sustainability strategy position it as a leader in the home appliance industry and a driving force for a more sustainable future.
