Google Cloud, SLB, and Project Innerspace Unite to Drive Global Geothermal Energy Adoption

San Francisco, USA — Google Cloud, alongside SLB and Project Innerspace, on Thursday announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at accelerating the global adoption of geothermal energy. The partnership will leverage Project Innerspace’s advanced GeoMap, a comprehensive geothermal data platform, and SLB’s geothermal consulting services, creating an innovative synergy to identify and unlock geothermal resources worldwide.

As global energy demand increases due to industrialization and economic growth, geothermal energy has emerged as a critical solution. A recent International Energy Agency (IEA) report, produced in partnership with Project Innerspace, highlights that geothermal energy has the potential to meet global electricity demand 140 times over, second only to solar photovoltaic among clean energy sources.

SLB’s Irlan Amir, Vice President of Renewables and Energy Efficiency, explained, “By combining SLB’s deep geothermal expertise with Project Innerspace’s advanced visualization and analysis, we can significantly speed up the development of geothermal resources, ensuring faster project deployment and a more sustainable energy future.”

Project Innerspace’s Jamie Beard echoed this, stating, “This collaboration taps into the vast potential of the oil and gas industry to scale geothermal energy. If the sector fully engages, it will revolutionize global economic stability and energy independence.”

A pivotal tool in this collaboration, GeoMap, was developed by Project Innerspace and is hosted on Google Earth Engine, with the added power of Google Cloud’s BigQuery and Vertex AI. GeoMap integrates extensive geothermal datasets, allowing users to visualize and pinpoint optimal locations for geothermal development worldwide.

Kyle Jessen, Managing Director of the Energy Sector at Google Cloud, said, “By combining the power of Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure, GeoMap’s data visualization, and SLB’s geothermal expertise, we are making geothermal energy more accessible and scalable on a global level.”

The partnership aims to address global energy needs while ensuring the widespread deployment of geothermal energy as a key pillar in the transition to cleaner, renewable energy. Google Cloud’s continued commitment to geothermal innovation further strengthens its leadership in the clean energy space.

For businesses interested in learning more, Google Cloud invites them to register for a visit at CERAWeek. Both SLB and Project Innerspace are members of the Google Cloud Ready Sustainability Ecosystem, helping companies achieve sustainability goals and business transformation.
