DHAKA, Bangladesh — May 18, 2025:
The Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2025 reached its grand conclusion at the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), where 171 young finalists from across the country showcased their skills in artificial intelligence and programming. Organized jointly by BUBT and the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the national round was the culmination of preliminary selections held on May 3 and 10 across all divisions of the country.
Participants came from a wide spectrum of institutions, including general schools, technical colleges, and international curriculum-based institutes, highlighting the competition’s inclusivity and national impact.
The day began early with registrations and welcome kits, followed by a formal inauguration. Professor Dr. B M Mainul Hossain, Director of the Institute of Information Technology at Dhaka University and the Olympiad’s team leader, officially opened the contest. He underscored AI’s transformative role in society and the importance of youth engagement in shaping the future of technology.
BUBT Vice Chancellor Dr. A B M Shawkat Ali formally launched the event and remarked, “Hosting this Olympiad reflects our commitment to empowering the next generation to lead in the AI-driven world.”
The competition featured a rigorous five-hour hands-on coding and machine learning challenge. Complementing the main event, a 30-minute AI and Python quiz saw 235 students participate across junior and senior levels. A Q&A session titled “Living in the AI Era” allowed students to share thoughts on the implications of artificial intelligence in daily life, followed by a hands-on workshop on Kaggle—an essential tool for data science.
The cultural segment and closing ceremony honored top performers and featured inspiring words from AI and academic leaders.
