Dhaka, Bangladesh — May 18, 2025:
United International University (UIU) professor Dr. Khondaker A. Mamun has been awarded the prestigious Telecom and ICT Award 2025 by the Government of Bangladesh in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to the country’s technology and innovation landscape. The award was conferred by the Post and Telecommunication Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology and presented during a ceremony held in Dhaka on Saturday, in observance of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
The award was handed over by Mr. Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. The event was also attended by prominent dignitaries including Mr. Fayez Ahmed Tayeb, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser for the ICT Ministry, Mr. Md. Shish Haydar Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary of the ICT Division, and Ms. Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Dr. Mamun, a professor of Artificial Intelligence at UIU’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is the founder of the Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems (AIMS) Lab and the Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialization (IRIIC)—Bangladesh’s first research-to-commercialization institute. With over two decades of leadership in AI research, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation, he has been instrumental in building solutions that aim to democratize access to healthcare and technology.
Among his most impactful initiatives is CMED Health, a healthtech venture that uses AI-driven systems to expand primary healthcare access through community-based, patient-centered models. Through CMED’s Intelligent General Practitioner (iGP), over 4 million digital health accounts have been created, helping to reduce out-of-pocket expenditures and improve healthcare outcomes in underserved regions.
Internationally, Dr. Mamun is also known for his pioneering work in brain-computer interfaces, assistive technologies for people with disabilities, and personalized learning tools. His innovations promote accessibility and digital inclusion across education, health, and governance. As an advisor to the Bangladesh government, he has provided guidance on AI strategy, inclusive policy frameworks, and the integration of digital health systems.
