RAYONG, Thailand – May 17, 2025:
ChangAn Automobile has achieved a major milestone in its international expansion strategy with the official launch of its first overseas New Energy Vehicle (NEV) production base in Rayong, Thailand, on May 16, 2025. The event was marked by the production of ChangAn’s 28,590,000th vehicle, a right-hand drive DEEPAL S05, signifying the company’s transition from an exporter to a fully industrialized global player.
The launch coincided with celebrations marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra met with ChangAn Chairman Zhu Huarong to express full government support for the company's investments and its efforts to build an end-to-end automotive value chain in Thailand.
Located in Rayong Province, the 960,000-square-meter facility has an initial annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, with plans to double by 2027. The plant strengthens localization, supports the Thai supply chain, and reflects ChangAn’s commitment to low-carbon development, job creation, and economic sustainability. The company aims to generate 30,000 new jobs and significantly contribute to local tax revenues.
The Rayong plant is a strategic cornerstone of ChangAn’s "Vast Ocean Plan", showcasing its ability to establish world-class, smart, and cost-effective manufacturing systems. The facility features photovoltaic power, rainwater recycling, air recirculation systems, and digital twin simulation technology to minimize environmental impact and boost efficiency.
As part of its "In Thailand. For Thailand" vision, ChangAn is positioning Thailand as a production and logistics hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The company targets 5 million cumulative vehicle sales and 3 million NEVs globally by 2030, and plans to introduce 12 new energy models over the next three years. A new parts warehouse in Rayong will support rapid delivery of right-hand drive vehicle components, aiming for 98% customer satisfaction and 24-hour order fulfillment.
ChangAn also announced upgrades to its Thai digital service platform, adding AI-powered features such as intelligent vehicle control, remote diagnostics, battery monitoring, and smart maintenance, enhancing user experience.
Since launching its third entrepreneurial initiative in 2017, ChangAn has embraced sustainable growth through the Green Plan, Intelligent Plan, and Vast Ocean Plan. It operates three core brands—CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR—to drive innovation in intelligent and low-emission mobility.
In 2024, ChangAn’s global sales hit 2.684 million units, with NEV sales growing 52.8% year-on-year to 735,000 vehicles. The company’s presence now spans Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Germany, and its recent rollout of seven models in Thailand has already achieved 14,000 sales, placing it among the top four brands in the country.
“We are committed to long-term development and local collaboration,” said Zhu Huarong, President of ChangAn. “Our goal is to make the Rayong plant a global benchmark for sustainable, smart manufacturing.”
With its latest achievements, ChangAn continues to establish itself as a leading force in the next generation of global automotive innovation.
