Tokyo, Japan — May 8, 2025:
Foxtron, the electric vehicle joint venture backed by Taiwan's Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), announced on Wednesday a new partnership with Mitsubishi Motors to co-develop electric vehicles aimed at the Oceania market. The vehicles will be manufactured by Yulon Motor Co. and are expected to launch in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026.
The collaboration marks another significant step in Foxconn's aggressive expansion into the electric vehicle sector, leveraging its legacy in electronics manufacturing to establish a foothold in the automotive industry. Hon Hai, globally recognized for assembling Apple’s iPhones, is now channeling its expertise into EV production through Foxtron, its venture with Taiwan’s Yulon Motor, which also builds Nissan vehicles under license.
While financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, both companies confirmed the signing of a memorandum of understanding, with further discussions to follow. The new EVs will be produced by Yulon, tapping into its existing infrastructure and know-how in vehicle assembly.
Speculation earlier this year hinted that Foxconn might consider a move on Nissan Motor Co. following the collapse of merger talks between Nissan and Honda. Although that bid did not materialize, the new deal with Mitsubishi underscores Foxconn’s continued interest in forming key alliances within the automotive sector.
Mitsubishi, like many Japanese automakers, is under mounting pressure to keep pace with rapid EV adoption in global markets. The company aims to electrify its entire lineup—offering only electric or hybrid vehicles—by 2035.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this January, Foxtron showcased its Model B, a stylish electric hatchback, alongside a lineup of innovative automotive technologies. The company currently lists 11 vehicle models on its website, including the Model T electric bus, Model V pickup truck, Model N van, and the luxury Model E sedan.
With its latest partnership, Foxtron is poised to enter a competitive and rapidly growing segment, bringing Foxconn’s tech-first approach to the global EV race—beginning with Australia and New Zealand.
