Dhaka, Bangladesh — May 30, 2025:
‘Legal Legend’, the debate team representing the 53rd batch of the Law Department at Bangladesh University, has been crowned champion of the university’s first Intra-Legal Debate Competition. The final round, held on May 29, 2025, in the university auditorium, witnessed a high-stakes intellectual face-off between Legal Legend and the 54th batch’s team, ‘Irreproachable’.
The final debate was adjudicated by a distinguished panel of legal experts who evaluated the teams based on their argument construction, legal interpretation, critical thinking, and delivery. After an intense session of logical reasoning and courtroom-style exchanges, Legal Legend emerged victorious.
Muntasir Rabbi stood out as the Debater of the Final, captivating the jury with articulate rebuttals and strategic dismantling of the opposition’s case. Meanwhile, Sadia Akhter Mim earned the title of Debater of the Tournament, applauded for her consistent excellence and persuasive command across all rounds.
In his address as the chief guest, Brig. Gen. Md. Mahbubul Haque (Retd), Registrar of Bangladesh University, praised the participants: “There is no alternative to debate for law students aspiring to sharpen their analytical and advocacy skills. This competition reflects the intellectual vibrancy and legal promise of our future leaders. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants.”
The event was also graced by Professor Humayun Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sociology, and Law, and Professor Tajul Islam, Dean of Business Administration and Economics, along with other faculty members, officials, and a large student audience.
The panel of judges included notable legal minds: Advocate Al-Amin Hossain, Head of Chamber, The Defense Council; Mollah Md. Ashraf Al Imran, Lecturer at Prime Asia University; Miss Richita Akhtar, Lecturer at Notre Dame University Bangladesh; and Advocate KM Nasir Uddin, Associate at Legal Point.
Launched on May 23, 2025, the competition saw 12 teams from various batches compete in preliminary and knockout rounds. The tournament aimed to cultivate a culture of debate, reinforce legal reasoning, and build confidence in public advocacy among students.
