NEW YORK — June 3, 2025:

Thomson Reuters, a global leader in content and technology, has officially launched a new class of artificial intelligence — agentic AI — beginning with the rollout of CoCounsel for Tax, Audit, and Accounting Professionals. This marks a major leap beyond traditional AI assistants, introducing systems that plan, reason, act, and escalate within high-stakes professional environments.
"Agentic AI isn't a marketing buzzword. It's a new blueprint for how complex work gets done," said David Wong, Chief Product Officer at Thomson Reuters. Unlike standard generative AI, agentic systems are built directly into professional workflows, with human oversight, ensuring accountability, transparency, and trust.
The company’s Agentic AI Platform — accelerated through its acquisition of AI startup Materia — draws on trusted content and tools from platforms such as Checkpoint, Westlaw, and Practical Law, giving AI agents the ability to operate within professional best practices.
Now live, CoCounsel offers intelligent automation for tasks like client file review, memo drafting, and compliance verification, unifying firm knowledge, IRS code, and internal documents. "This isn't GenAI in a prettier wrapper — it's a fully integrated, intelligent system built to do the work," said Kevin Merlini, VP of Product at Thomson Reuters and former Materia CEO.
Early adopters are already seeing results. “Before CoCounsel, each state’s residency code took half a week to review. Now it takes under an hour,” said Rich Marlatt, CIO of BLISS 1041.
Next in the agentic AI roadmap is Ready to Review, an intelligent tax preparation agent built on the GoSystem Tax Engine. Further expansions will bring agentic workflows to legal, compliance, and risk domains, with systems that plan and adapt across tools in real time.
With 20B+ documents, 4,500 subject matter experts, and integrations with partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS, Thomson Reuters is positioned at the forefront of professional-grade AI innovation.
"This is more than a product launch," Wong concluded. "It’s a signal of where the industry is heading — and who’s leading it."
