Dhaka, Bangladesh – July 18, 2025:
Bangladesh celebrated its first-ever Free Internet Day on Friday, July 18, granting every mobile subscriber 1 GB of free internet data with a five-day validity period. The initiative, announced by the Posts and Telecommunications Division, honors the historic July Mass Upsurge and underlines the government's effort to enhance digital access nationwide.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued directives to all operators on July 9, ensuring that the free data packages were ready for distribution. A formal notification from BTRC’s Systems and Services Department, released on July 16, confirmed that the move meets public expectations and advances digital inclusion in the national interest.
Mobile users across the country activated the data using operator-specific USSD codes on July 18: Grameenphone (1211807#), Robi (41807#), Banglalink (1211807#), and Teletalk (1111807#). Once activated, the data remains valid for five days, allowing users to access online services without cost.
Authorities say this campaign not only pays tribute to a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s political history but also promotes wider engagement with digital platforms. The success of Free Internet Day may pave the way for future initiatives on other significant national dates, as Bangladesh seeks to deepen its digital transformation and bridge connectivity gaps.
