Amazon is reportedly planning to launch a marketplace where publishers can sell content to companies developing artificial intelligence products, according to The Information. Ahead of this week’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) conference, internal slides referenced a content marketplace positioned alongside AWS’s AI tools, including Bedrock and Quick Suite, highlighting potential applications for publishers.

The proposed marketplace comes amid industry negotiations over how online content can be used for AI training or content generation. Publishers are pushing for usage-based fees tied to the volume of content utilized, aiming to protect their revenue while enabling AI innovation.

This move closely follows Microsoft’s launch of its Publisher Content Marketplace (PCM), a licensing hub that allows publishers to set terms for content use in AI systems. Amazon’s entry signals intensifying competition among tech giants to mediate AI content access while integrating licensing solutions into their cloud ecosystems.

While an Amazon spokesperson said the company had “nothing specific to share” regarding the report, the marketplace hints at a growing trend: major tech companies are increasingly formalizing how AI systems interact with publisher content. The initiative could reshape revenue streams for publishers, reinforce AWS’s AI positioning, and intensify the global conversation around AI, copyright, and ethical content use.
