DHAKA, Bangladesh — April 30, 2025:

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has officially handed over licenses to Starlink Services Bangladesh Limited, authorizing the company to operate satellite-based internet services throughout the country. The licensing marks a significant advancement in Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure by introducing internet connectivity via non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) systems.
The license handover ceremony took place Tuesday afternoon at the BTRC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. According to a press release, BTRC issued two distinct licenses to Starlink: the Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit Operator License and the Radio Communication Apparatus License. Both licenses are valid for a period of ten years and were granted following formal approval from the government.
Under the first license, issued by BTRC’s Licensing Division, Starlink is authorized to initiate commercial satellite internet operations in Bangladesh. The second license, issued by the Spectrum Division, grants the company the right to use approved radio frequencies and import necessary communication equipment for delivering its services.
Lt Col Syed Md Tawfiqul Islam, Director of the Licensing Division, handed over the operator license to Rebecca Slick Hunter, Starlink’s Director of Global Licensing and Market Aviation. The Radio Communication Apparatus License was presented by Dr Md Sohel Rana, Director of the Spectrum Division, also to Hunter.
With this move, Bangladesh joins the growing list of countries integrating next-generation broadband solutions via low Earth orbit satellites, promising high-speed, low-latency internet across urban and remote regions alike. Starlink’s entry is expected to significantly boost digital inclusion, enhance communication networks, and support the government’s vision for a “Digital Bangladesh.”
The development represents a milestone in transforming the country’s connectivity landscape and addressing challenges in regions previously underserved by traditional broadband infrastructure.
