HUNT VALLEY, USA — May 7, 2025:

McCormick & Company, a global leader in flavor and community engagement, has honored six standout high school student-athletes as part of its 2025 Unsung Heroes program, awarding $105,000 in scholarships at a prestigious ceremony held in downtown Baltimore.

Kayla Carter of Franklin High School and Ty Simpson of Owings Mills High School were each awarded the Charles Perry McCormick Scholarship, valued at $40,000 over four years. These honors mark the 93rd and 94th such scholarships since the program’s inception.

Carter, a dedicated wrestler, was recognized for her resilience and mentorship, overcoming personal hardships while leading and inspiring her teammates. Simpson, a standout football player, demonstrated remarkable leadership and strength through personal loss, helping guide his team to an impressive 11-1 season while supporting younger athletes.

Additional scholarship recipients included Arieon Stokes (Forest Park High School) and Thomas Brandel (Mount Saint Joseph High School), each receiving $7,500, and Tristian Savage (Milford Mill Academy) along with Angel Franco (Paul Laurence Dunbar High School), who were awarded $5,000 scholarships.

The event, held at the M&T Bank Exchange in the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, featured Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman as keynote speaker. Raisman engaged in a lively Q&A session with student-athletes, moderated by veteran sports broadcaster Scott Garceau.

Now in its 83rd year, the Unsung Heroes program was established by former McCormick Chairman Charles P. McCormick Sr. in 1940. It honors high school athletes who exemplify selflessness, perseverance, and dedication to team success without seeking the spotlight.

McCormick’s enduring support for this initiative highlights its commitment to uplifting young leaders and reinforcing the values of teamwork and integrity in youth sports and education.
