New York, USA — July 8, 2025:
China Airlines (CAL) has announced a strategic long-term partnership with The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City, marking a significant milestone in its expansion into North America. The Taiwan-based airline will officially move its operations to the new terminal in 2026, ushering in a state-of-the-art travel experience for passengers flying between Asia and the United States.
This collaboration is part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of JFK into a world-class global hub. The redevelopment plan includes two brand-new terminals, upgrades to existing facilities, an advanced ground transportation hub, and a reimagined roadway system—all designed to streamline and modernize the travel experience at one of the world’s busiest airports.
China Airlines currently operates four weekly nonstop flights between New York JFK and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The relocation to the New Terminal One in 2026 will enable the airline to provide travelers with an elevated customer experience, featuring cutting-edge check-in systems, biometric boarding, faster security clearance, premium lounges, high-end retail, and globally inspired dining options.
“We are honored to partner with China Airlines as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their New York operations,” said Jennifer Aument, CEO of The New Terminal One. “This partnership reflects a shared vision to deliver best-in-class passenger experiences while supporting growth across North America.”
Kevin Chen, President of China Airlines, emphasized the importance of innovation in the airline’s strategic roadmap: “With the promising development of The New Terminal One at JFK, we look forward to utilizing the latest technology and infrastructure to strengthen China Airlines' brand presence and share the spirit of Taiwan with the world.”
As part of the SkyTeam alliance, China Airlines joins major partner airlines—including Air France, KLM, Korean Air, and SAS—in selecting the New Terminal One as their future operational base at JFK. Other participating carriers include Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, Philippine Airlines, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Air China, Neos, Air Serbia, and Air New Zealand, forming a global airline community focused on seamless connectivity.
China Airlines serves six North American destinations with over 40 return flights weekly from its hub in Taoyuan. The airline is also a major player in the international air cargo market, operating a wide-reaching freight network that spans 12 North American cities. Its dual commitment to passenger and cargo services has positioned the carrier as a vital transpacific connector.
The 2026 transition to JFK’s New Terminal One is expected to significantly boost China Airlines’ competitiveness in the U.S. market, particularly in New York, home to one of the largest overseas Taiwanese communities. It also reinforces the airline’s long-term strategy to align its operations with premium global standards while promoting the culture, hospitality, and innovation of Taiwan on a world stage.
