OpenAI Unveils Tools to Identify AI-Generated Images and Audio

OpenAI is stepping up its fight against misinformation with the launch of new tools to detect images and audio created by its powerful DALL-E AI image generator. 

This includes an image detection classifier that analyzes photos to predict the likelihood they were AI-generated, even if edited. OpenAI claims an impressive 98% accuracy for DALL-E 3 images, but the tool struggles with identifying content from other AI models.

Additionally, OpenAI is introducing tamper-resistant watermarks to invisibly tag content like audio clips generated by its text-to-speech platform, Voice Engine.

These efforts address growing concerns about the misuse of AI-generated content, which can be incredibly realistic and easily manipulated. By providing methods to verify content origin, OpenAI hopes to increase transparency and combat the spread of false information.

While both the image classifier and audio watermarking are still under development, OpenAI is seeking user feedback to refine their effectiveness. Researchers and journalists can apply to test the image detection classifier, aiding OpenAI in its ongoing mission to identify AI-generated content.
